HOW IT BEGAN

Kevin Lockett was an Academic All-American and an athletic All-American football player at Kansas State University. He graduated with a degree in Accounting and was selected as the 47th pick in the second round of the 1997 NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. During his childhood and collegiate career, he was constantly shown the importance of investing back into his community by his parents and his coaches. Kevin went on to have a 7 year career in the NFL, but decided to establish his footprint in the community well before the end of his career.

In November 1998, The Lockett-Up Foundation was established with a mission to help increase academic achievement and accomplishments in an area with a long history of “low achievers” and “low performing schools.”  The primary focus of the Foundation is on the development of elementary and middle school students.  The foundation also hopes to enhance urban development and support the communities that have supported both Kevin and Aaron Lockett.

Aaron Lockett was also an athletic All-American football player at Kansas State University. He graduated with a degree in International Business and was selected as the 254th pick in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Aaron went on to have a 5 year NFL and CFL career and retired in 2007.

The Lockett-Up Foundation has now been impacting communities for more than 20 years and continues to look to implement or assist programs that strongly focus on at-risk and disadvantaged youth in education/academics, youth/kids development and growth in reading and community service. In 2000, the Foundation created the “Read & Achieve” program to help increase students reading & comprehension skills to prepare them for middle school.
